Poly Gel Nails: How to Build an Extension in 7 Steps

Poly Gel Nails: How to Build an Extension in 7 Steps

Poly gel · 7 steps · tube, slip solution and LED lamp

Poly gel comes ready in a tube, so there is no liquid to mix. Dispense it, shape it with slip solution and a brush, then cure. Cre8tion describes it as a hybrid of acrylic and hard gel.

You will need

  • Poly Gel in tube
  • Slip solution
  • Gel brush
  • Dual forms or tips
  • Primer and base
  • Top coat
  • LED lamp
  1. Prep and prime

Push back the cuticle, buff the shine off the nail and wipe away dust. Dehydrate with pH Bond, then apply No Burn Primer.

TipKeep primer on the nail plate and off the skin.

  2. Apply a base

Brush on a thin coat of base gel or Rubber Base and cure.

TipCap the free edge so the base covers the whole nail.

  3. Choose a tip or a form

Poly gel can be dispensed onto the nail or onto a dual form. A tip mold gives you a consistent shape from nail to nail.

TipNew to extensions? Start with one hand and check the shape before you cure.

  4. Dispense and place

Squeeze a bead of Poly Gel from the tube onto the nail or the form, in the middle of the nail where the structure goes.

TipA small bead is easier to move than a large one. Add more if the shape needs it.

  5. Shape with slip solution

Dip the brush in Slip Solution and press the gel toward the cuticle and the free edge until it is smooth. The slip solution keeps the brush from dragging.

TipWipe the brush between nails so the gel does not build up on it.

  6. Cure and refine

Cure under your LED lamp, following the label, then file the shape and the surface smooth and wipe away the dust.

TipCure one nail at a time until you are comfortable with the shaping.

  7. Color and seal

Add gel color if you like, then seal with Diamond No Wipe Top Coat and cure. Finish with cuticle oil.

TipA matte finish? Use Super Matte Top Coat instead.

Quick answers

What is poly gel?

A thick extension gel that comes in a tube. Cre8tion describes it as a hybrid of acrylic and hard gel. You shape it with slip solution and cure it under an LED lamp.

Do I need slip solution?

Yes. Slip solution lets the brush move the gel without dragging, so you can shape it before it sets.

Does poly gel need a lamp?

Yes. It cures under an LED lamp. Follow the label for your lamp.

Poly gel or soft gel tips?

Poly gel builds the extension on the nail or a form. Soft gel tips are pre-shaped and applied with adhesive gel. See Which Cre8tion Nail System Fits You? for a side-by-side.
