Halloween Cat Eye Nails: A Magnetic Moonlit Look in 6 Steps

Halloween Cat Eye Nails: A Magnetic Moonlit Look in 6 Steps

Cat eye gel · Halloween · 6 steps

One pass of a magnet turns a flat dark coat into a moonlit line of light. Midnight Mirage is built for exactly this look.

You will need

  • Cat eye gel (Midnight Mirage)
  • Cat eye magnet (sold separately)
  • Base coat or Rubber Base
  • Black gel, optional
  • No wipe top coat
  • LED lamp
  1. Prep and prime

File the shape, buff the shine off, and wipe the nail clean. Dehydrate with pH Bond.

TipOil left on the nail shows up later as lifting. Wipe once more before the base.

  2. Lay the base

Brush on a thin coat of Rubber Base or your base gel, cap the free edge, and cure.

TipCapping the edge helps the set resist chipping.

  3. Add depth, if you like

Many cat eye shades read deepest over black. Cure a coat of Super Black first. Skip it for a softer, more see-through look.

TipCure the black fully before the cat eye goes on.

  4. Paint one nail

Shake the bottle well so the magnetic particles are evenly mixed. Paint one thin coat of a Midnight Mirage shade on one nail. Do not cure yet.

TipThin coats move more freely under the magnet than thick ones.

  5. Pull the magnet

Hold the magnet close to the wet gel for 5 to 10 seconds without touching it. Keep it steady while the line forms, then cure that nail right away.

TipWork one nail at a time so the effect never has time to drift.

  6. Seal and finish

Repeat on the other nails, then seal everything with a no wipe top coat and cure. Finish with cuticle oil.

TipA no wipe top coat means no scrubbing across your finished effect.

Quick answers

How long should I hold the magnet?

Hold it close to the wet gel for 5 to 10 seconds without touching it, then cure while it is still in place.

Why is my cat eye line fuzzy?

The coat is usually too thick, or the magnet moved. Use a thin coat and hold the magnet steady.

Do magnets come with the gel?

Magnets are sold separately from single gels. Some sets, such as the Mystical set, include a magnet.
