Glazed Donut Nails: How to Get the Pearly Glaze in 6 Steps

Glazed Donut Nails: How to Get the Pearly Glaze in 6 Steps

Glazed donut nails · 6 steps · pearl chrome

Glazed donut nails are a sheer, milky color with a pearly glow over the top. Cre8tion White Pearl Chrome turns any color into a pearl finish, so the base can be a soft pink, a nude or a milky white.

You will need

  • Base coat
  • Sheer pink, nude or milky gel
  • No wipe top coat or Chrome Base
  • White Pearl Chrome powder
  • Silicone or sponge applicator
  • Chrome Top
  • LED lamp
  1. Prep and base coat

Prep the nail, dehydrate with pH Bond and apply and cure a thin base coat.

TipChrome shows every ridge, so smooth the nail first.

  2. Choose a sheer color

Apply two thin coats of a soft color and cure each one. Good picks are the Semi-Sheer Pink Series or Milky White Gel.

TipKeep it light. The pearl does the glow.

  3. Cure a slick top layer

Brush on a thin coat of a no wipe top coat such as Diamond No Wipe or Chrome Base Clear and cure it. Do not wipe it.

TipPowder grips a fully cured, slick surface best.

  4. Rub on the pearl

Take a little White Pearl Chrome on a silicone applicator and rub it over the nail in small circles until the glaze shows. No lamp for this step.

TipLess powder is better. Add more only if you want a stronger shine.

  5. Brush off the dust

Sweep away any loose powder with a clean brush so it does not get sealed under the top coat.

TipUse a fresh brush for each color family.

  6. Seal it

Seal with Chrome Top and cure. It is made to seal chrome, mirror and pigment powders.

TipThe White Pearl page also lists a gel top coat. Use the one you like and cure it.

Quick answers

What are glazed donut nails?

A sheer pink or milky base with a pearly chrome glaze over it, so the nail looks like a glossy donut. The glaze is the White Pearl Chrome powder.

Can I use another color under the pearl?

Yes. The White Pearl Chrome is made to turn any cured color into a pearl finish. Sheer pinks and nudes give the classic glazed look.

Is there a tinted pearl option?

The Pearl Chrome shades, such as 01 and 03, add a colored pearly shift. They are applied the same way, buffed over the cured surface.

Why is my glaze patchy?

Use a fully cured, wipe-free top layer and a clean applicator. Rub in small circles and add powder in thin amounts. See Silver Chrome Nails for the same technique.
