How to Do Dip Powder Nails: 7 Steps and the Rustic Collection

Four bottles, one jar of powder, no lamp. Here is the full dip routine, in the order the Cre8tion Dip Powder guide follows.

The Rustic Collection

The routine

  1. Before you start

    Pre-clean

Clean and sanitize hands. Take the shine off the nails with a fine grit file, and remove any old product or dirt.

  2. Step 1

    Prep

Brush Dip Prep over the nail to cleanse leftover oil and dust.

    #1 Dip Prep#1 Dip PrepMSRP from $7.25
  3. Step 2

    Base

Brush on a thin layer of Dip Base. A thin layer makes the strongest bond between the nail and the powder.

    #2 Dip Base#2 Dip BaseMSRP from $7.25
  4. Dip

    Dip the whole nail

Dip the nail completely into the color powder and tap off the excess. Brush away anything that did not stick.

  5. Step 3

    Activate

Brush on Activator to speed the bond and seal the powder layer. Give it a moment to dry, then file and buff out any bumps and dust the cuticle area clean.

    #3 Activator#3 ActivatorMSRP from $7.25
  6. Repeat

    Build the color

Repeat base, dip and activator for more color. One layer reads sheer, two give full coverage, and three go bolder. Let each step air dry for 45 to 60 seconds.

  7. Step 4

    Top and shine

Brush on Dip Top for a glossy finish. Wipe the brush on paper after each nail to reduce stiffness. A second coat adds more gloss.

    #4 Dip Top#4 Dip TopMSRP from $7.25
  8. Finish

    Moisturize

Once the nails are dry, rub cuticle oil around the fingertips.

Pro tipKeep the activator brush away from the base. They dry and bond together. Wipe brushes on a paper towel or brush cleanser between steps, and clean them after each use.

Two variations

Ombre

With an oval brush, tap color B on the bottom half of the nail, then color A on the top half. Let them meet in the middle.

French

Dip the whole nail in pink and repeat the base step. Pour white powder into the French Dip Container and dip only the tip for the smile line. Tap off the excess, then dip the whole nail in pink again.
