Christmas tree nails · 6 steps · detailing gel
A Christmas tree is three stacked triangles, and a detailing gel with a thin stripe brush draws them in a few strokes. Add dots for ornaments, a star on top, and the accent nail is done.
You will need
- Base coat and no wipe top coat
- Snow white or deep color gel
- Green detailing gel
- Red and gold detailing gel
- Dotting tool
- LED lamp
- Optional Christmas stickers
-
Prep, base and background
Prep the nail, apply and cure a thin base coat, then two thin coats of 108 Snow White or a deep red or navy, curing each one.
TipSnow white shows the green tree best. A dark ground makes gold pop.
-
Draw the tree
Load the thin brush of Christmas Green 45 and draw a point at the top of the nail. Zigzag down in three tiers, wider each time, then fill in the shape. Cure.
TipWipe the brush on the neck of the bottle for a fine, controlled line.
-
Add the ornaments
Dip a dotting tool in Christmas Red 43 and place a few dots on the tree. Use Mirror Gold 48 for a few more. Cure.
TipOdd numbers of dots look natural. Keep the dots small.
-
Top it with a star
Paint a tiny star or a dot of gold at the very top of the tree, and a short trunk at the bottom if you like. Cure.
TipA star is just a small plus sign with two lighter diagonal strokes.
-
Or use a sticker tree
For a no-paint shortcut, the Christmas Nail Art Stickers include a style (C04) with a tree among Santa, reindeer and gingerbread art. Place it on cured color, then seal.
TipCut the piece out first and use tweezers to place it.
-
Seal it
Seal the whole nail with Diamond No Wipe Top Coat, covering the edge of the art, and cure. Finish with cuticle oil.
TipA thin coat of top coat keeps small dots crisp.

Quick answers
Which green is best for a Christmas tree?
Detailing Gel 45 Christmas Green is described as a classic holiday green for holly, trees and clean seasonal line work, and it comes with a thin stripe brush.
I do not have a steady hand. Can I still do a tree?
Yes. Place a tree sticker on cured color and seal it, or build the tree from dots with a dotting tool.
Should every nail have a tree?
Most sets look best with one or two accent nails. Keep the rest in a solid red, green or snow white so the tree stands out.
