Blood Splatter Nails: How to Do Halloween Splatter Art with Gel

Blood Splatter Nails: How to Do Halloween Splatter Art with Gel

Blood splatter · 6 steps · art gel

Splatter looks wild, but it is controlled. Use a little red gel, tiny drops and a quick cure so nothing runs.

You will need

  • Red art gel
  • Light or black gel color
  • Base coat
  • Stiff brush or dotting tool
  • No wipe top coat
  • LED lamp
  1. Prep and base

File, buff and wipe the nail. Dehydrate with pH Bond, then brush on a thin coat of base coat and cure.

TipCap the free edge as you go.

  2. Choose the background

Two thin coats of white, nude or black, curing each. White makes the red read as a bright splatter. Black makes it look like a horror movie.

TipCure the background fully. Splatter will smear on a tacky layer.

  3. Load the red

Take a little Detailing Nail Art Gel 03 Red on a short, stiff brush or a dotting tool. Wipe off the excess so only a small amount is left.

TipA small amount of gel makes small drops. A big blob makes a puddle.

  4. Make the splatter

Hold the brush a few inches above the nail and tap it against your finger so tiny drops fall. Or dab the nail lightly with the dotting tool. Work from the tip toward the cuticle and vary the sizes.

TipPractice on a tip first. Cover the skin around the nail so drops stay off it.

  5. Flash cure

Cure the nail right away under your LED lamp so the drops hold their shape. Add a second layer of drops if you want a heavier look, then cure again.

TipDo one hand at a time so the first drops never have time to run.

  6. Seal and finish

Seal with a no wipe top coat and cure. Finish with cuticle oil.

TipAdd one dark red glitter drop with Detailing Gel 28 Red Glitter for a wet look.
